The Royal Society of New Zealand has selected six students to attend the prestigious Harry Messel International Science School, which takes place in Sydney for two weeks in July.?
The students were chosen from over 200 applicants and were selected because they are passionate about studying science and have achieved excellent exam results. They also?plan to study a form of science at a tertiary level.?
The New Zealand students will join like-minded students from 10 other countries at this event and this year the Professor Harry Messel International School will focus on nanotechnology.
All students will be supported by the Talented School Students Travel Award which is funded by Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and administered by the Royal Society of New Zealand.? This will cover 80% of their travel and associated costs.?
The students going from New Zealand to the Professor Harry Messel International Science School are among 19 students from around New Zealand in Year 12 and 13 who have been selected by the Royal Society of New Zealand to attend international science and technology events around the world. Other events which students will be attending are the London International Youth Science Forum, the USA International Space Camp, and the Youth ANZAAS conference, Hobart.??
Debbie Woodhall from the Royal Society of New Zealand says more than 200 applications were received this year from keen science students. ?The selection panel thought the standard of applications this year has been absolutely outstanding? she says.?
