The new film features Condola Rashad (Phylicia and Ahmad's daughter) in the Julia Roberts' role of Shelby, with Queen Latifah in the Sally Field role as Shelby's mother. According to the Red Cross website, one blood donation can help save up to three lives.

They are accepting two types of donations Monday ? blood donations and double red cell donations.

Blood donors must be at least 17, weigh 110 pounds, be in good health on the day of the donation and have no history of exposure to hepatitis or HIV/AIDS. There are other health requirements.

Also, the individual?s last donation has to be more than eight weeks, or 56 days, ago, and they must have a valid identification, such as a driver?s license, blood donor card or passport.

Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.

Chevron: Failed pipe had unknown weakness

He said it was up to federal investigators to determine whether the violation was an oversight or flagrant. The probe is unrelated to last month's fire at the Richmond plant, but has ramped up community pressure for greater oversight of the refinery.

Anti-terrorism magistrates near the Mediterranean port city of Toulon questioned the 18-year-old after he threatened in a message on Facebook to cut the throats of anyone he could find at the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a judicial source said.

The magazine's publication of cartoons ridiculing Mohammad added to the anger of Muslims already outraged over an anti-Islam film produced in the United States and posted on the Internet.

The suspect had no police record but he was already known to security services, the source said, without giving further details.

Police in France are on high alert for attacks by Islamist militants. They were criticised for failing to stop an al Qaeda-inspired gunman shooting dead seven people in March, including three Jewish children, in the southern city of Toulouse.

The shooter, Mohamed Merah, had been interviewed by police after returning from a visit to Afghanistan and had a violent criminal record.

The government, which has criticised the cartoons, plans to shut schools and diplomatic offices in 20 countries on Friday as a precaution against protests after attacks on U.S. and German embassies, some of them deadly.

Police have refused a request to hold a protest against the film in Paris, after some 150 participants in an illegal demonstration near the U.S embassy were arrested on Sunday. France has Europe's largest population of Muslims.

"People in the suburbs are very upset over the publication of these cartoons," said Mohamed Mechmache, head of the ACLEFEU association for urban youths, created in the wake of riots that swept French suburbs in 2005.

"They feel there is a double standard when it comes to free speech: it's okay to mock the Prophet, but we can't protest against it ... All it would take for things to spiral out of control is a police check that goes wrong."

In another incident which might exacerbate strains, an 18-year-old young French woman was sentenced to two months in jail for refusing to comply with a police identity check while she was wearing a banned full-face veil in public.

The woman resisted police when they asked to check her identity in front of a mosque in central Marseille in July, during the holy Muslim fasting period of Ramadan.

Under a French law from 2010, a person wearing a "burqa" or "niqab" style full-face veil can be stopped by police. If she refuses to remove her veil, she can be fined or sentenced to community service. Repeat offenders face jail.

In addition to being jailed and receiving a six-month suspended prison sentence, the veiled woman was ordered to pay damages of 1,000 euros ($1,300) to a female police officer whom she bit during the altercation.

Two young men who were accompanying the woman were also sentenced to two months' jail for fighting with police when they tried to carry out the identity check.

Cancer-causing gene alone doesn?t trigger pancreatic cancer, research finds

ScienceDaily (Sep. 10, 2012) ? More than a cancer-causing gene is needed to trigger pancreatic cancer, a study led by Mayo Clinic has found. A second factor creates a "perfect storm" that allows tumors to form, the researchers say. The study, published in the Sept. 10 issue of Cancer Cell, overturns the current belief that a mutation in the KRAS oncogene is enough to initiate pancreatic cancer and unrestrained cell growth.

The findings uncover critical clues on how pancreatic cancer develops and why few patients benefit from current therapies. The findings also provide ideas about how to improve treatment and prevention of pancreatic cancer.

The research team, led by Howard C. Crawford, Ph.D., a cancer biologist at Mayo Clinic's campus in Florida, and Jens Siveke, M.D., at Technical University in Munich, Germany, found that for pancreatic cancer to form, mutated KRAS must recruit a second player: the epidermal growth factor receptor, or EGFR.A third genetic participant known as Trp53 makes pancreatic tumors very difficult to treat, the study showed.

The scientists also found that EGFR was required in pancreatic cancer initiated by pancreatic inflammation known as pancreatitis.

"We believe the perfect storm needed to trigger pancreatic cancer include KRAS mutations and inflammation in the organ, which then work synergistically to turn on EGFR," says Dr. Crawford.

"The bottom line is, without EGFR, tumors don't form -- and that was never known before this study," he says. "We also think that inflammation in the pancreas has a big impact on turning on EGFR."

The researchers discovered that when they blocked EGFR activity, the mice studied were protected against developing chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.

They further found that in mice that had lost expression of the TP53 tumor suppressor -- a situation that mirrors up to 60 percent of human pancreatic cancer cases -- tumors escape the dependency on EGFR for initiation and continued growth of pancreatic cancer, Dr. Crawford says.

Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal disease; no drug has been able to target the mutant KRAS protein. The study suggests some patients, such as those with chronic pancreatitis, may be good candidates for treatment with EGFR inhibitors to fight or prevent pancreatic cancer, Dr. Crawford says.

"The clinical implications of this study are exciting. It suggests that pancreatic cancer patients with normal p53 activity, as well as patients with chronic pancreatitis, may be good candidates for treatment with EGFR inhibitors," Dr. Crawford says.

The EGFR inhibitor erlotinib is part of the standard therapy for pancreatic cancer patients, but has minimal effects in the patient population as a whole, he adds. "But that may be because many of the patients likely had a mutation in the TRP53 tumor suppressor, so erlotinib would not help them, since EGFR was no longer necessary for tumor growth.

"Perhaps erlotinib or other EGFR inhibitors would work much better in patients who do not have a TRP53 mutation," he says. "We also believe this kind of drug could prevent pancreatic cancer formation in patients with chronic pancreatitis, which is a significant risk factor for development of pancreatic tumors."

"These findings give us some greatly needed clues about how pancreatic cancer develops and progresses," Dr. Crawford says. "The more we understand about these early tumors, the more we will be able to work on diagnosis and therapy."

Kansas City bishop guilty for not reporting sex abuse

Kansas City Catholic Bishop Robert Finn was found guilty Thursday of one count of not reporting sex abuse; he was found not guilty on a second count.

He is the first sitting U.S. bishop criminally charged for covering up sex abuse in the church.

A Jackson County Court judge heard arguments from the prosecution and defense and delivered a verdict from the bench after a 30-minute recess.

Bishop Finn was accused of failing to report suspected child abuse to authorities in the case of Rev. Shawn Ratigan, who was charged with taking indecent pictures of children.

Last month, Ratigan pleaded guilty to five counts of producing child pornography in federal court. Eight other counts were dismissed.

Finn spoke briefly to the court after the verdict was reached and said he was sorry. The judge gave him a suspended sentence of two years of probation and required him to undergo training for reporting suspected abuse.

The diocese was also charged with failure to report, but the cases were separated early Thursday. Prosecutors said they would drop charges against the diocese after the Finn verdict, but the judge was not expected to rule on that issue until Friday.

Lawyers for Finn and the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph released the following statement after the verdict:

"Bishop Finn is grateful that the court and prosecutor have allowed this matter to be resolved. This could have been a lengthy and emotionally difficult trial for all persons affected. The bench trial, with a stipulation of testimony, has avoided the need for live testimony from diocesan employees, parishioners and others. This process has also resulted in the charges against the Diocese being dismissed by the state. The diocesan process and procedures as previously existed failed to adequately identify the necessity to inform the Children's Division of Shawn Ratigan's behavior in a more timely manner. For this, the bishop is truly sorry."

Pulled Pork on Rolls

Ingredients:

Method:

1. In a large bowl rub pork with BBQ rub

5. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours, or until meat is tender.
6. Remove pork from crock pot and shred with a fork on a flat surface
7. Drain any excess fat from cooking liquid.? Pour remaining liquid over pork and mix to coat with sauce.

ECB must do more for euro: OECD's Gurria

BLED, Slovenia (Reuters) - The European Central Bank should do more to stem the crisis in the euro zone because the current financial facilities are not enough, the secretary-general of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) said on Sunday.

"If you have the ECB which can work in the markets in order to bring down maturities then why not?" Angel Gurria told a news conference during an international business and political conference in Slovenia.

"The system is at stake, the euro should not be put at risk ... the EFSF and the ESM are not enough, fast enough, reactive enough," Gurria added.

He was referring to the European Financial Stability Facility and the European Stability Mechanism, the new, permanent euro rescue fund seen as a key fiscal pillar in Europe's efforts to stem the crisis.

Gurria said he "hoped and expected" Germany's Constitutional Court would approve the ESM on September 12, after it was endorsed by parliament in June. Failure to approve it would almost certainly doom the ESM.

Asked if the ECB should start unlimited bond buying, he said: "Yes, I believe they should, the sooner, the better."

He also forecast the euro zone would remain intact despite the current crisis.

"I believe nobody is going to leave the euro and nobody should leave the euro and I believe some other countries are going to be joining the euro in the future," Gurria said.

He said Slovenia, which markets speculate could become the next country to ask for an international bailout, should focus on reforms and only consider any possible bailout after implementing reforms and reducing the deficit.

"If you (Slovenia) have done everything that you need to do, the banking reform, the state-owned enterprise reform, the pension reform, the labour reform ... and still the markets are attacking than I would say, yes, let's ask the family to help," Gurria said.

A new study shows that men have more of a reason to eat chocolate than women do. Chocolate has been linked to reducing the risk of strokes in men, according to the Swedish study. After asking men, ages 49 to 75, to record what they ate, the study showed that a moderate consumption of chocolate weekly was good for a man?s health. Read more below.

In a new study out of Sweden published this week, researchers found that eating a moderate amount of chocolate every week was associated with a reduced rate of stroke incidents.

Published in the journal Neurology, the study asked 37,103 Swedish men ages 49 to 75 to fill out a food questionnaire assessing their consumption of food and drink. Those who ate the largest amount of chocolate ? equal to about one-third of a cup of chocolate chips or 63 g a week ? had a 17 percent lower risk of stroke compared to those who consumed no chocolate.

The theory?

?The beneficial effect of chocolate consumption on stroke may be related to the flavonoids in chocolate,? explained study author Susanna C. Larsson of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.

?Flavonoids appear to be protective against cardiovascular disease through antioxidant, anti-clotting and anti-inflammatory properties. It?s also possible that flavonoids in chocolate may decrease blood concentrations of bad cholesterol and reduce blood pressure.?

In a separate review of five studies, the researchers found that those who consumed the most chocolate also lowered their risk of stroke by 19 percent compared to non-chocolate consumers.

Another interesting finding was that though dark chocolate is believed to contain more nutritional value and heart benefits, 90 percent of the men?s chocolate intake in was milk chocolate.

The latest research builds on a slew of other studies which have linked chocolate to cardiovascular health. A 2011 study published in the British Medical Journal, for instance, found that high levels of chocolate consumption reduced the risk of stroke by as much as one-third.

Another US study published earlier this year also found that people who eat chocolate regularly are actually thinner than those who don?t.

Other foods that are high in flavonoids and antioxidants include berries, dark beans like black and kidney and red vegetables.

HOUSTON (AP) ? A 25-year-old fan died after tumbling about 60 feet from a fifth-floor escalator at Reliant Stadium during a preseason Houston Texans game, officials said Friday.

The man fell to the ground floor during Thursday night's game against the Minnesota Vikings, and frantic witnesses called police to report where his body had landed, police spokesman John Cannon said.

The fall appeared to be an accident, police said. The fan's name was not released because police were working to notify his family.

The man was traveling down from the fifth floor when he fell to the ground, said Mark Miller, the general manager of SMG-Reliant Park. Two medical teams working at the stadium treated the man at the scene before he was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he died, he said.

Staffers monitor fan safety at each escalator landing, Miller said.

"We make sure they're not overloaded and we try to operate them in the safest possible manner," Miller said.

The bank of elevators in the northeast corner of the stadium where the fall occurred has been closed for inspections and Reliant Park officials are reassessing safety procedures, he said. But Texans' president Jamey Rootes indicated that security and safety changes were unlikely because of the fatal fall.

"We have our procedures in place, the league has a whole comprehensive set of best practices relative to fan behavior and stadium security," Rootes said. "We've always been rated at the very highest level ... I don't know that anything changes."

The Texans open the regular season Sept. 9 with a home game against the Miami Dolphins.

The fall wasn't the only fatal incident at a Texas sport venue in recent years. In 2011, a firefighter attending a Texas Rangers game in Arlington died when he fell from the left field stands while reaching for a baseball tossed his way by All-Star outfielder Josh Hamilton.

Shannon Stone fell about 20 feet onto concrete when he tumbled over the left-field railing after catching the ball and falling into an area out of sight from the field as the Rangers faced Oakland. Cooper Stone, his 9-year-old son, witnessed the fall during the second inning.

In April, a statue of Stone and his son was dedicated to Rangers fans in front of the home plate gate at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Railings also were raised throughout the ballpark before this season.
